Amazon Freevee is shutting down

Freevee, the ad-supported free streaming service from Amazon, is being phased out in coming weeks and consolidating with Prime Video.

Amazon confirmed the move this week, describing the merger as a "simpler viewing experience for customers." Prime Video now also features ads for Prime members who won’t pay extra to remove them.

According to Amazon, all Freevee content that’s currently streaming on Prime Video will be labeled "Watch for Free" so both Prime and non-Prime members can easily see what’s available for free, the company said.

"There will be no change to the content available for Prime members, and a vast offering of free streaming content will still be accessible for non-Prime members," an Amazon spokesperson said in a statement.

The Freevee channel is a mix of new and classic TV shows, including old hits like "All in the Family," "Bob Ross: The Joy of Painting," "The Middle" and "Nashville," Entertainment Weekly reports.

Freevee original series include Emmy-nominated "Jury Duty," "Bosch: Legacy," "Alex Rider" and "Judy Justice" starring Judge Judy Sheindlin.
