Alabama, Clemson fans fill Sky Harbor as they return home
PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Roll Tide.
You heard a lot of that this morning as fans were traveling back home today.
"It was an amazing game, a great game, and that's what we cam for, we didn't want a blow out, either way we wanted a good game and that's what we got, down to the last minute," said Alabama fan Jo Cook.
"It gave me, like heart palpitations," Mustafa Lutfi said, another Alabama fan. "I almost had a heart attack, but you know, Clemson is really good and Deshaun Watson is just amazing."
Die hard fans for Alabama and Clemson traveled across the country to attend the national championship game in Glendale, but many say they saw more Clemson fans.
"I heard ticket prices out of Birmingham were pretty high, so a lot of people didn't make it," Lutfi said. "I don't miss championships no matter the cost."
Though Alabama took home the win, Clemson fans still repped their team on Tuesday.
"We've been Clemson fans for years," said Cynthia Jones. "I met my husband at Clemson, so we just came out and wanted to see them win a national championship. I loved the game and I think we did fantastic, I'm not happy with the outcome, but we played our hearts out and I'm proud of our team."
Two best friends from Florida made it through the whole game, all while rooting for different teams.
"Our friendship was on the line," they said. "Our husbands' business partnership was on the line. We just wanted a really great game, no matter who won. It would have been nice if Clemson had won, but it was a terrific game."
If you forget to grab your national championship T-shirt, don't worry, you can get it right here at the airport.
It's a busy day at Sky Harbor Airport as thousands of football fans are heading home.
