12-year-old Tolleson boy shot in the chest, police say
TOLLESON, Ariz. - The Tolleson Police Department says a 12-year-old boy was shot in the chest Sunday night.
The incident happened near 93rd Avenue and McKinley Street around 6 p.m., says Sgt. Obed Gaytan on May 28.
The boy's condition is stable, and he was able to talk to investigators, police say.
After looking into what happened, police said the boy and a 14-year-old boy were playing with the gun when it fired.
Initially, police say the boys told them that it was a drive-by shooter that caused the incident.
The gun was reportedly found at the home.
"How the juveniles got the handgun and ownership of the gun as well as how it was discharged is still under investigation," police said.
No more information is available.
