Fort Worth police get help catching package ‘Grinches'
FORT WORTH, Texas - The Fort Worth Police Department is getting help to catch package thieves this holiday season.
Operation Grinch Pinch is a program where police give volunteers a package that contains a GPS tracking device to put on their front porch.
Those GPS devices are monitored and if a thief picks one up, police are notified. Officers can then track the package and hopefully take the thief into custody.
Police at each of FWPD's six divisions have already selected a number of volunteers in the community to participate. Those homeowners also have active home video monitoring systems.
At the end of the year, police hope to look at statistics to see if the program helped to cut down on the crime.
