Surveillance video showing deadly Scottsdale plane crash released

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (KSAZ) - Scottsdale Police officials have released a surveillance video showing a fiery plane crash that killed six people in April.

The plane crash happened on April 9, when the small plane, subsequently identified as a Piper PA24, crashed on the TPC Scottsdale Champions Gold Course shortly after takeoff.

The victims were later identified as 26-year-old Erik Valente, 28-year-old James Louis Pedroza, 23-year-old Mariah Sunshine Coogan, 28-year-old Anand Anil Patel, 22-year-old Helena Lagos, and 23-year-old Iris Carolina Rodriguez Garcia.

According to NTSB officials at the time, the plane took off at around 8:45 p.m., and was heading for North Las Vegas.

No one on the ground was hurt, according to Scottsdale Police officials at the time.

According to a preliminary report released by the National Transportation Safety Board, a traffic camera located half a mile northwest of the end of the departure runway recorded the plane in a left bank, executing a left turn.

"As the turn progressed, the bank angle increased, and the airplane started to descend. The wings became nearly vertical, and the view of the airplane was lost behind a berm. Seconds later, the camera caught a fireball when the airplane impacted terrain," read a portion of the report.
