Scottsdale police: Victim stabs man in self-defense during assault

Scottsdale police say a man has been arrested after he assaulted another person and stole their property.

According to the Scottsdale Police Department, 41-year-old Charles Lovin was arrested after he assaulted another person and stole their property during an altercation that started in the bathroom of the Third Avenue parking garage.

Police say Lovin stole the victim's property and a fight ensued along Scottsdale Road between Third Avenue and Indian School when the victim tried to recover his property.

At one point, the stolen items were dropped in the median of Scottsdale Road and as the victim began picking up his property, Lovin started assaulting him again, according to police.

During this assault, the victim pulled out a knife and stabbed Lovin in his shoulder. Lovin then chased the victim to Indian School Road where they were met by police officers.

Both the victim and Lovin were detained by police and Lovin was taken to a nearby hospital. The victim was later found to have been justified using the knife on Lovin for self-defense.

Lovin was arrested and held in custody for charges of attempted robbery, assault and disorderly conduct.
