Program gets adults with developmental disabilities moving

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (KSAZ) -- The importance maintaining a healthy lifestyle and working out is well known, but for adults with developmental disabilities, that can sometimes be a difficult task. That is why two organizations are teaming up.

STARS, a non-profit organization in Scottsdale that creates programs for adults and kids with development disabilities, recently teamed up with GYMGUYZ, a mobile personal training company. Organizers say the partnership has helped with more than just helping everyone get in shape.

"They're so excited to get their workout going, and for me, they're the perfect client, just seeing people that really want to work out," said Bill Stark with GYMGUYZ.

The program is one of many they've recently implemented at STARS, which provides programs and services for children and adults with developmental disabilities.

"When you have a family member that has a developmental disability, your number one concern is that they're going to have a good, productive life," said Director of Advancement Anne Gray. "We're here to make sure that happens."

"It doesn't come naturally to initiate physical activities, and we wanted to provide a program where they will feel comfortable, where they will create this self-awareness," said Program Manager Henriette Content-Tavor.
