Phoenix FD investigates 15 suspicious fires within 12-hour span
PHOENIX - More than 15 fires in a 12 hour period of time within a two-mile radius have Phoenix Fire Department investigators on high alert.
Slate Miloneck and his family had sat down for dinner on Monday night when his young son saw flames out a window in their home.
"What we could see from our backyard was pretty much the whole span of the alley was just ablaze," he said.
The fire was coming from a tire shop next door to Miloneck's home near 18th Street and Thomas Road.
"At least I got it to get away from that transformer," he said.
Miloneck was able to take some video when he got his family to safety. The incident could be connected to a string of fires that Phoenix Fire Department is investigating in East Central Phoenix. The department responded to 15 different ones in the area from Sunday night to Monday.
"One of the fire department guys told me last night this is not an isolated event, there's several other issues, and a couple other fires in our zip code and in the adjacent, it's not cool," he said.
PFD didn't want to give an official comment as they continue to investigate these cases. They have not ruled out that the fires are related.
The tire shop fire almost took down a power pole, but thankfully, there were no injuries. It gave Miloneck a sense of relief after everything was over.
"I left all the hot dogs in the house, I didn't haven ay hot dogs, I didn't have any graham crackers, no marshmallows, if I had known, I would've sent out an invite and had a barbecue," he said.
