Person responsible for illegal dumping in Laveen caught on camera
PHOENIX (KSAZ) - On Thursday, Fox 10 Phoenix reported an update to the continual illegal dumping in Laveen.
The city came and hauled the trash away, but now city officials have a video of the culprit responsible.
So if you're sick of the illegal trash being dumped in Laveen, taking a good look at the video obtained could help stop or curb it.
The city of Phoenix released the video on Friday evening showing an illegal trash dumping incident from December 27 at around 10:45 p.m.
The people in the video pull up to 39th Avenue and Vineyard. They appear to look around and then illegally leave some discarded furniture on the side of the road.
And the eyesore of an old recliner and table has been ticking neighbors off for months.
"There's a dump two miles from here that doesn't charge you anything up to a ton. I don't know why these people can't find it in their hearts to take it where it needs to be taken," said Michelle Mendoza, a resident in Laveen.
"I've never gone a day without seeing trash here," said Meredith Velez, another resident.
And here's the rub: the city cameras caught these illegal dumpers, but can't make out the license plate. If they can't make out the license plate, they have no one who they can hold accountable for the trash, which is why they're relying on neighbors to be on their eyes and ears for the problem.
City officials say this is the third incident since the cameras went up at that intersection, but it has proven difficult to catch the people doing it. The city of Phoenix does bulk trash pick up four times a year.
