Dog bites trooper after being loose on Phoenix roads for nearly two hours

PHOENIX, Ariz. (KSAZ) - A DPS trooper was injured during a struggle to capture a dog who was running loose on Phoenix roads for nearly two hours Tuesday morning.

DPS first learned of a German Shepard loose on State Route 51 around 7:30 a.m.

The dog spent almost two hours on and off SR 51 until troopers chased him into a neighborhood near 20th Street and Roosevelt.

The dog was tased by a trooper in a struggle to capture it and a trooper was bitten on the hand. The dog is okay.

First responders arrived on the scene to treat the trooper. Animal control was called to retrieve the dog.

Officials with Maricopa County Animal Care and Control say the dog has some injuries on its paws from running, but otherwise appears to be healthy.

They said the dog will be quarantined for ten days while they monitor its behavior, then they will decide whether to put the dog up for adoption or send to a rescue group.
