EDISTO BEACH, S.C. - Crews on South Carolina's coast spend Saturday cleanup and in the case of the Edisto Beach, clearing a path back home.
The Edisto Police Department was posting on Facebook Saturday afternoon their efforts to clear away storm debris and evaluate the safety of the island.
The police department reports the coastal community experienced severe damage from flooding overnight.
Pictures posted to their Facebook page shows crews cutting up fallen trees and moving debris from roadways.
Police of the coast community are asking residents to remain patient as they continue to work to make the island passable and safe.
Police said the area still is without utilities.
Edisto Beach is located about 50 miles southwest of Charleston and 65 miles southwest of where the eye of Hurricane Matthew made its way on shore
