Arizona weather forecast: Highs in the 70s this weekend in the Valley

Great weather continues this weekend with highs in the middle to upper 70s around the Valley.

By the numbers:

Friday afternoon, the high temperature reached 79 degrees at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. Officials with the National Weather Service's Phoenix Office say this is nine degrees above average.

Saturday is expected to reach 79 degrees and Sunday will hit 78. Both days are dry and winds remain light, around 5-10 mph. By Sunday, the sky will turn mostly cloudy.

What's next:

A pattern shift is expected next week. While the high will remain in the upper 70s on Monday, by Tuesday the high falls to near average at 70 degrees. The change begins as a trough passes across the Southwest, dragging colder air and more moisture from the north and northwest. By Wednesday and beyond, high temperatures may struggle to climb out of the upper 60s.

For now, it appears possible a couple rounds of rain and snow could move across the state. It's too early to give high confidence to the coverage, exact timing, or totals. However, there's a low chance for Wednesday and Thursday, with a slightly better chance by Friday.

It's been an especially dry fall and winter, so any precipitation will help with current short-term drought conditions. Most of Arizona is now in some level of drought, per the Drought Monitor's latest update.
