Arizona weather forecast: Cold front bringing cooler temps to Phoenix this week
PHOENIX - A week of change ahead!
Our weather pattern will bring a winter storm to the state this week with cooler temperatures, windy conditions, and a few rain/snow showers expected.
Monday afternoon, ahead of the pattern shift, temperatures will still be warmer than average. Highs in the low 70s are forecast in the Valley with a partly sunny sky. Winds will be light on Monday. By Monday evening, a few isolated, light rain/snow showers are possible in northern Arizona, north of Interstate 40.
The storm system will actually drop from north to south across Arizona between Tuesday and Wednesday morning. As it passes over us, it will increase winds and bring additional moisture into the state. Tuesday is forecast to hit 68 degrees in Phoenix with an isolated chance for a few light showers from overnight Tuesday into early Wednesday.
There is a better chance of a few scattered rain to snow showers over northern and eastern Arizona on Tuesday, Tuesday night, and Wednesday morning.
While snow accumulation is not expected to be large, a few inches will be possible with a forecast of 1-2 inches in Flagstaff, 4-6+" over Arizona Snowbowl, and 1-2" around Pinetop-Lakeside. These totals accumulate between Tuesday morning and Wednesday night.
Wednesday turns especially windy around Arizona. Gusts of 20-30 mph are forecast for the Valley. In Flagstaff, gusts of 30-35 mph are expected and in Show Low, gusts of 20-30 mph are likely.
Cold air will filter in with this system. Highs in the middle 60s are forecast beginning Wednesday and lasting into the weekend in Phoenix. Overnight lows will fall to the upper 30s and low 40s over the next week in the Valley with the teens and 20s overnight in northern Arizona.
