Arizona weather forecast: Dry and warmer-than-normal conditions on last day of 2024

Happy New Year's Eve!

The final day of 2024 will bring high temperatures into the lower 70s around the Valley. The average high for Dec. 31 is 66 degrees, meaning we'll end the year above average again.

In fact, 2024 as a whole has been above average! The average high for 2024 was 90.5 degrees; the historical average is 87.1 degrees. The average low for 2024 was 66.8 degrees; the historical average is 64.1 degrees.

June, September, October and December set new records for monthly heat and 39 days over the last year set daily heat records. As a whole, 2024 is officially considered the hottest year on record at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.

If you're ringing in the new year outdoors, temperatures will slip to around 50-55 degrees at midnight in the Valley. In Flagstaff, the midnight temperature slips to the low 20s and in Prescott it will be near freezing during the boot drop.

The first day of 2025 will hit 72 degrees in Phoenix. It will be dry and mostly sunny. It may be a touch breezy in northern Arizona.

Temperatures continue to climb in the new year. Highs hit the middle to upper 70s on Thursday and Friday in Phoenix.

Highs start to drop over the weekend with highs in the upper 60s by Sunday. The 10-day forecast looks dry with just a few breezy days ahead.
