Tempe considering raising tobacco age to 21

The Tempe City Council is proposing to raise the minimum age of tobacco purchase to 21 years old. A committee has been working on an ordinance aiming to decrease youth tobacco and e-cigarette use. The proposal would also establish a tobacco sales license for businesses that sell tobacco. Arizona is one of 10 states that does not have a statewide tobacco licensing registry. The city council members will bring it to a vote at a future meeting.
