The Arizona loss marks the second time in the franchise’s 42 seasons that they don’t have a win after six games (were 0-5-1 to start 2017-18 season)

The New York Islanders kept the Arizona Coyotes winless with a 3-0 victory Saturday night.

“I thought we had a really good first period,” Coyotes coach Andre Tourigny said. “The short-handed goal was a big swing. Our power play was confident and our power play has been good this year. Instead of getting back in the game, you give them your lead.”

Clayton Keller had a goal and an assist, and Shayne Gostisbehere added three assists for the Coyotes, who are winless in three games under new coach André Tourigny in his first NHL season.

After years of playing in Glendale, the Arizona Coyotes have played their last home opener at Gila River Arena, as the team hopes to play in another Arizona city.

Playing in a new, arguably tougher division, the Coyotes have been projected by some to finish worse than their 24-26-6 record in the abbreviated 2020-21 season.

Arizona's NHL team has submitted a bid for two parcels of land in Tempe, in what could be their first step to landing a permanent home.

Glendale decided not to renew their operating agreement with the hockey team, citing “an increased focus on larger, more impactful events” for the arena after the season ends.

The team announced on August 18 the six-team tournament will be held Sept. 17-20 at Gila River Arena and Ice Den Scottsdale, the Coyotes’ practice facility.

The Coyotes on Wednesday traded goalie Darcy Kuemper to the Colorado Avalanche.

"Today was a day he’s worked a long time and hard for," said Shane Doan, who’s now Arizona’s chief hockey development officer. "It’s surreal that it happened to be the Coyotes. He deserves every single bit of everything he’s getting today and so proud of him."

"He is a very good offensive defenseman and an excellent skater. He will be a solid addition to our blue line this season and will be a key power-play player for us," Coyotes general manager Bill Armstrong said.
