Grand Canyon University discontinues wrestling program

Wrestlers at Grand Canyon University were shocked on Monday when they learned that their program was discontinued.

One wrestler says they thought they were going in for a meeting, but instead, they were hit with this bad news like a ton of bricks.

"I think it was the AD, he started to read off of the paper he was holding up and he said we've decided to discontinue the wrestling team. At that point, everyone was wide eyed and nobody knew what to say," said Will Olivas.

School officials declined an interview, but they did release a statement:

"After evaluating the program, it was determined a programmatic change was necessary to allow the institution to remain successful in a constantly changing collegiate athletics landscape."
