Governor Abbott proclaims Houston Astros Day in Texas

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has issued a proclamation declaring November 3, 2017 Houston Astros Day in celebration of their historic victory in the 2017 World Series.

The Houston Astros beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-1 in Game 7 to claim the title.

In his proclamation, Governor Abbott reflected on the significance of the Houston Astros' victory for not ony the city of Houston, which is still recovering from the devestation of Hurricane Harvey, but the state of Texas as a whole.

"Earn History was truly a fitting motto to follow this season, as this team displayed tremendous character and grit, fighting through adversity to bring home the franchise's first World Series title," said Governor Abbott. "Like the Astros, Texans are known for their spirit and resolve, and in the wake of Harvey's devastation, we were able to see the perservering nature of Texans on full display. This vicoty is a great honor for the Astros, and will serve as an inspiration to a city and state that is passionate about its sports."
