Valley workers protesting for higher wages

As many Americans prepare to file their taxes, some are planning to spend their day fighting for higher wages.

Hundreds of low-wage workers and their supporters are holding protests across the country and in the valley, as they fight for higher wages and union rights.

One protest in the valley is happening at the McDonald's near 23rd Avenue and Bethany Home Road on Thursday morning, with another scheduled to start in the evening.

With momentum building from the $15 per hour minimum wage wins in California, New York and Pennsylvania, workers in Phoenix are fighting for the same wage increase.

Thursday morning's protest is one of a record 300 worldwide, where thousands of underpaid workers, including those workers in fast food, home care, child care, airports and higher education, will demand corporations pay wages that workers can live on and pay their share of taxes.

The protest happening in the evening is scheduled to start at 5 p.m. at Margaret T. Hance Park, where workers will march from the park towards the McDonald's near Seventh Street and McDowell Road.
