Valley couple proves one can find love at any age, any place

MESA, Ariz. (KSAZ) -- A Valley couple is proving you can find love at any age and anywhere.

These two love birds fell in love in a different type of situation, and both say a relationship wasn't even on their radar.

Their love story all started at Banner Baywood Medical Center in mesa during a chance encounter.

"I kind of gotten to the point where I was like nah, it's not going to happen," said Sam Allen.

Sometimes love hits you out of no where, when you're least expecting it.

"It was more of a friendship than anything else, because neither one of us thought about anything but that," said Anita Herber.

That's exactly what happened for Allen, 75, and Herber, 69. They met back in 2017. Back then, Sam, who was volunteering at the hospital as he normally did, was visiting with Herber, who was a patient at the time. The two hit it off, so Allen asked Herber to come over for dinner.

"That night, I was going to have Corned Beef and Cabbage, so I invited her over and she came, and her mistake!" said Allen.

That dinner turned into much more, and after about six months of dating, the two tied the knot in july.
This is not the first marriage for either. Allen's wife passed away in 2009, and Herber lost her husband in 1992.

"I was at the point where I was 25 years without a husband," said Herber. "I'm not going to feel this again."

Although they still miss their other spouses dearly, both say this second chance at love makes it all the sweeter.

"It was almost like I was never alone after I met him," said Herber. "It's like I just picked up from where I left off 25 years ago, but with a different person."

"I like that I have someone to cook, which has just been good, we do things together," said Allen. "It's just so nice to have somebody to share with and love each other."

Herber has some advice for other ladies looking for love. She says she knows of some other volunteers that are single, but you have to go to Banner Baywood.
