Valley bakery fell victim to burglary for the 3rd time

PHOENIX (KSAZ) -- The owner of a small bakery in North Phoenix says she is fed up with being the target of crime in her area.

On Friday night, My Gal, Sal Bakery was victimized once again, for the third time in the two years the store has been at the location.

My Gal, Sal Bakery specializes in gluten-free baked goods, special occasion cakes, and cake pops. The owner has a loyal dedicated following, but says this latest break in really has shaken her.

The suspect was seen destroying a security camera inside the store. Besides that, several other shots were recorded, including a shot of the suspect breaking into the bakery's back office, where Salome Schroeder works on books.

"It's just frustrating," said Schroeder. "I'm fed up. I'm just fed up."

The suspect was also seen breaking into the bakery's safe, and taking cash.

"I try to make light of the whole of the situation, and I've been telling people they try to steal my dough, but in the end, it just beats me up," said Schroeder.

After the burglaries, Schroeder is feeling pretty defeated.

"I'm sick and tired of being targeted," said Schroeder. "This is my third time, and I just -- I'm fed up. I don't want to do it anymore. It's so frustrating. It's, like, go get a life. Get a job. Stop picking on hard working people like myself."

Schroder estimates the thief spent more than 15 minutes in the bakery, beginning at around 8:00 p.m. Friday. The silent alarm went off, by the time Schroeder and police arrived, the man had fled. Schroeder says as usual, her customers and the community have rallied around her, and as upset as she is, she's not giving up her lifelong dream of running her own bakery.

"I can't," said Schroeder. "If I give up, they win, and those [expletive] are not going to win. They can't. I cannot let them do that."

Anyone with information should call police.
