Zechariah MacDonald
TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Tucson couple convicted in the death of their 6-month-old son have received their sentences.
Pima County Superior Court officials told the Arizona Daily Star that Zechariah MacDonald was sentenced Monday to five years in prison for manslaughter.
The infant's mother, Tamara Fowler, was given concurrent sentences of 15 years of probation for negligent homicide and child abuse.
Both initially faced a first-degree murder charge.
Authorities say MacDonald used blankets in February 2018 to drown out his son Killian's crying, causing the boy's death.
Firefighters were called when the infant became unconscious. He later died at a hospital.
They say Fowler knew MacDonald used blankets to muffle the baby.
