PHOENIX (KSAZ) - A Phoenix music venue is reopening after being closed all week because of extensive water damage to the building. Last weekend the band Three Bad Jacks, used pyrotechnics during its performance at "The Rebel Lounge," setting off the sprinklers.
That's right The Rebel Lounge has been open for just about two hours now, they still have some visible damage inside. The Maricopa County Health Department gave them the green light and now as you can they're ready to rock.
Part of the appeal of the Rebel Lounge is not knowing what you're in for, but last week an Los Angeles band called The Three Jacks did something no one could have predicted, they lit the stage on fire, a video of the frontman igniting flames has circulated the web.
Steve Chilton, owner of the lounge didn't want to talk about the incident, but says he never imagined anything like this to happen.
"Well you hope it wouldn't, thank God we put those things here," said Steve Chilton.
In a statement Three Bad Jacks wrote in part that Phoenix has some of the "meanest people on the face of the earth" and that they never received payment for the night. They also claim Steve knew about the nature of the show for 15 years.
The Rebel Lounge also issued a statement: "Three Bad Jacks did not have permission to use fire. They did not ask anyone at The Rebel Lounge for permission nor would any such permission have been granted. We have since learned that this band has had prior incidents of using fire in their set after explicitly being told not to do so."
Chilton says he's focused on the future of the lounge, but won't forget the quick action of valley firefighters that night.
"Really grateful for Phoenix Fire, been very supportive and cooperative," said Chilton.
There is no GoFundMe page for the band, Steve says they are not looking for any handouts. All proceeds from Thursday night's show go to Wurth House, to protect the historic building on Roosevelt Row.
