The Bumpus Hounds take the stage in Christmas Story the musical

It is a scene we all remember from the movie A Christmas Story, the blasted Bumpus hounds gobbling up the holiday turkey. Now two bloodhounds; Stella and Hoss, bring that same mischief to ASU's Gammage in "A Christmas Story: The Musical."

"These types of dogs are really hyper-sensitive, they live and die by their nose, basically they're hunting dogs," said Doug Terranova.

Terranova is the trainer for these 4-footed actors. He handles them on-stage, keeping them "on their paws" in theaters of every shape and size.

"The dogs when they make their passes across the stage, run in front of the house, so if the orchestra pit is close, they're kinda looking over the edge, and that gives them something different to look at too," said Terranova.

Stella and Hoss travel with Terranova, and even stay in the same hotel room as him, they even get their own bed.

The scene in which the hounds steal the turkey is a specially trained trick, one that both dogs are eager to perform.

"It's a prop turkey, but we do put real turkey on it, so the dogs are actually eating turkey," he said.

So as you settle down for your Thanksgiving drumstick, remember these pesky pups who will be more than happy to take care of your leftovers.
