Teen struck by bus in the West Valley
A teen was taken to the hospital with serious injuries following a crash involving a school bus near Bethany Home and Dysart Roads in the West Valley.
MARICOPA COUNTY, Ariz. - A 13-year-old boy has serious injuries, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, following a crash in the West Valley involving a bus.
The crash happened in the area of Bethany Home Road and Dysart Road. Deputies were called to the scene at 4 p.m. on May 16.
"The cause of the crash is unknown at this time. Deputies are investigating," an MCSO spokesperson wrote.
MCSO says the boy has serious injuries but is stable at the hospital.
The teen was a student at L. Thomas Heck Middle School in the Litchfield Elementary School District. He was riding a bike home from school when the crash happened.
Litchfield Elementary School District spokesperson Sam Nuanez released a statement on the incident:
"On May 16, 2024, an incident occurred involving a L. Thomas Heck Middle School student and a Litchfield Elementary school bus. While riding a bike home from school, the student and school bus collided. First responders were immediately called to the scene and provided emergency care. Due to the severity of the injuries, the student was airlifted to a nearby medical facility for treatment. Our thoughts are with the student and their family during this difficult time. The safety and welfare of our Litchfield Elementary School District students remains top priority. The district is cooperating fully with local authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident."
