A 16-year-old boy is facing multiple murder charges after reportedly shooting and killing his four family members in rural New Mexico.

According to State Police, the victims were found fatally shot at their home in Valencia County early Saturday morning after the boy called 911 to say he’d killed his entire family.

Police said the teen made the chilling 911 call around 3:30 a.m. When deputies arrived at the scene, they said the suspect walked outside the home with his hands in the air and surrendered. He was highly intoxicated, police said.

Deputies walked into the house and found four people dead inside, along with a handgun on the kitchen table.

Police did not say what substance the teen was intoxicated by, nor did they release a motive for the killing. They also didn’t identify which family members were killed and whether any of the victims were children.

The teen, whose name has not been released because of his age, will be booked into a juvenile detention center on four open counts of murder, police said. He’ll be booked into the detention center after he’s released from the hospital, where he was taken to detox.
