Chandler pursuit bodycam footage released

Officers with the Gila River Police Department were in pursuit of a shooting suspect on Monday afternoon, and it came to an end with the suspect in custody after hitting a Chandler Police Department cruiser, says the Chandler Police Department on April 11.

According to Chandler Police, the driver, identified as 39-year-old Michael Tyner, was headed northbound on Gilbert Road from the reservation, and that's when officers said Tyner hit the police cruiser at Gilbert and Riggs roads and came to a stop.

"As the black truck approached Gilbert and Riggs, the officer deployed the stop sticks," police said in a statement. "The suspect vehicle entered the intersection where the suspect swerved the black truck and drove toward the officer and the officer's unmarked patrol car. The officer jumped out of the saw to keep from getting hit by the suspect's vehicle. The suspect vehicle collided with the patrol car, coming to a stop."

The truck Tyner was driving was reported stolen out of Chandler. The shooting that Tyner was allegedly involved in happened near Hunt Highway and Gilbert Road.

The shooting victim is going to be OK. The officer suffered minor injuries.

"Both the shooting victim and suspect are non-native and the events leading up to the shooting are still unknown to us. This was not at the casino," said Ricardo Alvarado with the Gila River Police Department.

Tyner was arrested and taken to a hospital for treatment. He was booked into jail upon being released from the hospital. He is accused of multiple charges, including aggravated assault on a police officer, endangerment, and unlawful flight.
