Settlement reached after police sergeant pushes woman over
TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - A woman who toppled over a bench after being shoved by a police sergeant after the NCAA tournament has reached a $100,000 settlement with the city.
Christina Gardilcic was walking to a parking garage as police were trying to control a crowd that had broken out after the University of Arizona basketball team lost the March 29, 2014 game. A video shows Gardilcic talking on the phone when Sgt. Joel Mann knocks her over a bench.
Gardilcic claims she suffered back spasms and a bruised left arm.
After the $375,000 claim she filed was denied by the city, she filed a lawsuit against Sgt. Joel Mann, Police Chief Roberto Villasenor and Tucson.
The Pima County Attorney's Office found no criminal intent in Mann's actions, but says he was "overzealous."
