WINDER, Ga. - Georgia's Winder-Barrow High School's graduation ceremony wasn't exactly what the Class of 2016 expected.
The lights went out just as the diplomas were being handed out. The students were left to graduate in the dark after a bundle of balloons that had been released hit the power lines causing a transformer to blow.
Students, faculty and family quickly turned to social media to share photos of the "blackout." The use of their cellphones quickly lit up the event like a concert. The principal made an announcement that the graduation will continue and said, "I never thought that I would say this, but thank goodness for cellphones!"
