Registered sex offender arrested for abuse of 11-year-old girl

SAN TAN VALLEY, Ariz. (KSAZ) - A valley man has been arrested after sheriff's deputies say he struck an 11-year-old girl several times.

The Pinal County Sheriff's Office says 40-year-old Timothy Barnett was arrested after the girl, who is a family member of Barnett, showed up to school on the morning of April 20 with bruises and swelling on her face and arm.

The girl's teacher noticed the injuries and reported the abuse to the sheriff's office.

Deputies arrested Barnett at his San Tan Valley home later that day. He is a registered level two sex offender for a crime he committed in Alaska.

Barnett is being held in the Pinal County jail on a $100,000 bond.
