Police say suspect had robbed same Red Robin once before
Carlos Herrera, 23, was arrested in the murder of a Red Robin employee in Scottsdale.
According to court documents, 23-year-old Carlos Herrera was arrested in connection to Doyle's murder on Oct. 12.
Herrera allegedly told police he entered the restaurant on June 12 while it was closed and pointed a gun at Doyle. A struggle ensued, at which point Herrera fired a gunshot at the floor. Herrera said the struggle continued into the kitchen, where he dropped the gun and Doyle grabbed it.
As Doyle was leading Herrera to a booth inside the restaurant, Doyle claims he reached for the run and it went off, striking Doyle in the chest.
Police say Herrera also admitted to being involved in another robbery at the same restaurant, about a month prior. In that incident, Herrera entered the restaurant while it was closed, pointed a gun at an employee, and got away with an undisclosed amount of money.
When asked by police why Herrera went back to the same Red Robin to rob it again, he said he had done so because the first robbery "was so easy."
Herrera was booked into jail and is accused of first-degree murder, attempted burglary and attempted robbery. He is being held on a $1 million bond.
