'Red for Ed' teacher movement continues in Chandler
CHANDLER, Ariz. (KSAZ) - Valley teachers continue to protest as part of the "Red for Ed" movement.
"Instead of a walkout, it's not a strike, it's not any of those negative connotations, it's just a positive walking in together, unified to show that we are all in support of education and doing what's best for our students," Katie Byrne Nash said.
The two-part rally took over the front lawn of the Chandler Center for the Arts, and teachers and staff from all 45 schools within the Chandler Unified School District marched together.
They're hoping their shout out to state legislatures and Gov. Ducey will finally be heard, which is an increase in teacher pay, to supply educators with proper school funding for their students' education, and better classroom instruction.
"As you know, we're at the bottom of every list in terms of funding, per pupil funding, teacher salaries... I mean, I can't imagine purchasing a home or having a family," Jacob Harvey said. "I mean, it just doesn't make any financial sense right now.
Arizona remains the state holding the lowest salary pay for teachers and the message from these educators is very clear.
