Purcell & Biggs take lead in 2016 primary races
PHOENIX - Maricopa County Recorder Helen Purcell and Senate President Andy Biggs have taken the lead in their primary races, according to unofficial final results posted overnight.
In the GOP primary race for the Maricopa County Recorder position, Purcell has more than 200 votes than her opponent Aaron Flannery.
In the Congressional District 5 race, Andy Biggs has just nine more votes than his opponent Christine Jones, while others in the race, Justin Olson and Don Stapley, trail behind. Biggs released a statement on Saturday morning declaring he has clinched the nomination.
The Maricopa County Elections office confirms there will be an automatic recount in this race because of the close margin. A recount in federal elections is typically triggered when the margin is fewer than 200 votes, or less than one-tenth of one percent between the two candidates.
