PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Police say a 17-year-old girl has died and an 18-year-old man is in critical condition following a multi-vehicle crash in north Phoenix on Wednesday night.
According to Sgt. Armando Carbajal with the Phoenix Police Department, the crash happened near 32nd Street and Union Hills at 7:39 p.m. when a Kia Optima that was heading northbound on 32nd street ran a red light and hit a red 2006 Ford F-150 pickup truck that was turning east on Union Hills.
Police say the force of the collision caused the Kia Optima to hit a blue 2010 Ford F-150 pickup truck, that was on the northeast side of the intersection waiting to turn northbound onto 32nd Street.
Three people riding the in the Kia Optima were taken to a nearby hospital. A 17-year-old girl who was a passenger in the car died af the hospital. She has since been identified by Phoenix Police officials as Anika Zibell.
The 18-year-old driver of the car is in critical condition. The other passenger of the car suffered minor injuries.
The driver of the red 2006 Ford F-150 was processed for possible alcohol impairment, according to police.
The driver of the blue 2010 Ford F-150 suffered minor injuries.
