PHOENIX (FOX 10) - Playing for pink on the green. Honoring both fighters and survivors, over 100 women hit the course today in support of a great cause that affects so many.
"To support tournaments like this is really the baseline," Cathy Dalzell said. "It's the foundation and you just get more and more people hopefully to participate and become more aware and help others along the way that have been affected."
"My mom passed away from a brain tumor cancer when I was younger, so just the whole cancer realm means a lot and it means a lot to my heart and everyone else it's affected and is going through something," Taylor Hawkins said.
Over 10 years ago, the "Pink Ribbon" came to life.
The women's golf tournament helps the Arizona Country Club and HonorHealth Foundation raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research.
"We have the breast health and research center that takes cancer patients all around the country, but definitely here in town and the monies that are raised in a tournament like this stay in town," said Debi Rittenhouse of the HonorHealth Foundation.
With volunteers, sponsors and fun contests, "Pink Ribbon" organizers hope the tournament will raise over $50,000, with all of the proceeds going towards HonorHealth Foundation's breast cancer research.
