Phoenix student allegedly brings unloaded gun to school, PD says
PHOENIX - A gun was allegedly found in a student's backpack on Thursday at Kyrene Altadeña Middle School in Phoenix.
On Dec. 12, school staff told a school resource officer they had found a gun inside a student's backpack. The gun wasn't loaded, the school said in a letter to parents.
"When the officer arrived, probable cause was established, and the student was arrested for the misconduct involving weapons charge. The student was booked into JCC for the charges related to the investigation. There was no threat to the school or any specific student(s) related to this investigation," the Phoenix Police Department said.
The school said a student told staff about the gun and reported it right away.
"Altadeña’s School Resource Officer located the weapon and immediately moved it to a safe location. That is all the information we can share while a police investigation is pending. Kyrene School District will cooperate with police, and we will conduct our own investigation as well. Please know that the Altadeña campus is safe," the school said in the letter.
The student's name and age weren't released.
