Phoenix Police trying to figure out what led to deadly shootout
PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Phoenix police officials say they have identified a homicide suspect who was shot and killed.
According to police, 39-year-old Edward Hallinan's wife called around 4:00 p.m., saying her husband had a rifle and was firing shots. When officers arrived to the home near 35th Ave and Thomas, they saw Hallinan drive by in a truck he then parked in the street.
Moments later, they heard a shot coming from the truck. Officers then yelled for Hallinan to drop the weapon and show his hands.
After that, another shot was fired, and that's when a 17-year department veteran fired back. Hallinan was then taken to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries. There is no word yet whether Hallinan was killed by the officer's bullet, or his own.
As the police helicopter was overhead, they noticed 3 victims with gunshot wounds in the yard next door. Those victims, 21-year-old Francisco Javier Galindo, 26-year-old Vidal Hernandez Gutierrez, and a 20 to 30-year-old man who has not been identified, all died at the scene. It is believed Hallinan shot them
FOX 10 Phoenix has spoken with Hallinan's family. The family declined to go on camera, but said Hallinan had a lot of issues. Other neighbors say he was a nice man, and they never would have expected him to do something like this.
