2 Phoenix Police officers pass away, department says
PHOENIX - The Phoenix Police Department is mourning the loss of two of its officers who died after experiencing medical emergencies this week.
Officer Mark Aker
Officer Aker died from a medical event while on-duty on May 10, police said. Aker joined Phoenix Police in 1994 and was assigned to the Maryvale Estrella Mountain Precinct.
Officers, firefighters, and other members of the law enforcement community lined up their cruisers and trucks at the Maricopa County Medical Examiner's Office in downtown Phoenix Wednesday night to honor the officer being transferred from the Banner Estrella Medical Center to the office.

Sgt. Wheeler died from a medical event while at home on May 9, police said.
Wheeler joined Phoenix Police in 2007 and was assigned to the Desert Horizon Precinct.
