Phoenix Police officer Matthew Haney, partner of Zane Coolidge, honored at GCU basketball game

Matthew Haney is honored with a game ball alongside his family and Phoenix Police Chief Michael Sullivan at the GCU basketball game.

Phoenix Police Officer Matthew Haney was honored at the Grand Canyon University basketball game on Dec. 19.

Haney was the partner of Officer Zane Coolidge, who died in the line of duty in September.

Both of the men were shot by a suspect who was breaking into cars near the intersection of 16th Street and McDowell Road.

Haney was credited with trying to save Coolidge, who fought for his life in intensive care for days after the shooting.

Zane Coolidge, a five-year veteran of Phoenix Police, is survived by his wife and the couple’s 5-month-old daughter.

Haney is still in recovery and on light duty with the Phoenix Police Department.

He received an honorary game ball from the Antelopes and was joined by his family and police Chief Michael Sullivan.

The suspect in the case was caught and is charged with murder and attempted murder in the shooting.
