Phoenix Fire paramedics help injured hiker down from South Mountain trail

Paramedics with the Phoenix Fire Department assisted an injured hiker down the mountain early Sunday afternoon.

An off-duty Phoenix firefighter hiking on South Mountain near 2400 E Valley View Drive initially discovered the injured hiker and called 9-1-1, according to William Benedict with the Phoenix Fire Department.

Paramedics responded to the scene and found a 30-year-old woman with an injury to one of her legs, Benedict said. After assessing the woman's overall health, they used the "big wheel" to get her down off the mountain.
