A man was killed in an officer-involved shooting after police say he kidnapped his ex-girlfriend and fired at police.
Phoenix Police say the man died from his injuries after exchanging gunfire with officers. Officers say the suspect held his ex-girlfriend at gunpoint for several hours overnight at her home near a home near 43rd Avenue and Northern.
According to police, the victim was able to hit a silent alarm button in her home, alerting police to the situation. They say officers were able to rescue the woman from her home safely, and the man took off on foot. K-9's were dispatched and tracked the suspect down, police say, explaining that when SWAT teams tracked him down, the suspect produced a weapon.
A spokesperson for Phoenix Police says the suspect opened fire on officers, and they returned fire, killing the man. No officers were injured in the shooting, but police are expected to keep streets in the neighborhood shut down for several hours while they investigate.
