A Valley pastor will be leading a prayer service in Laveen Thursday night, as teachers and students at Betty Fairfax High School cope with a recent shooting.

"I felt scared honestly," said one parent. "Those are our kids that are coming here."

According to police, a 14-year-old was shot and killed during a drug deal nearly two weeks ago. Another 15-year-old was also shot. Now, an 18-year-old is charged with second degree murder and attempted second degree murder.

Also involved in the incident are a 16-year-old, two other 15-year-olds, a stolen gun, and a vehicle. Most of those involved were past and present students of Fairfax High.

"There's a lot off issues that have been going on for at least the last two years," said Pastor Warren Stewart, Jr. with Remnant Church. "Kids fighting, just a lot of violence in that area."

Pastor Stewart, who is holding the prayer vigil and night of healing at the school for the students, faculty and staff, says he is hoping that this is the first step in a new direction.

"To let these kids know that you can have a better life," said Pastor Stewart. "You don't have to follow drugs, rob each other and shoot and kill. No one benefits from that, so they need to hear a message of life other than the message of this fast money that they're trying to get."

It is something parents are pleased with.

"That way, everyone is aware of it," said one parent. "All of the kids are aware of what's going on."
