Palisades Fire: Arizona animal rescue fundraises to help victims

An Arizona animal rescue and nonprofit is fundraising and collecting donations for the Palisades Fire victims in southern California.

One Step Wild Burros and Mustang Rescue said on Facebook that it's collecting donations for the victims, including animals, and will be making a trip over to California in a week to deliver them.

"We successfully did this for the Malibu fire a few years ago and it was an incredible achievement! As some of you know, I have family and friends in this area and it's my hometown, so this cause is particularly close to my heart," the nonprofit's post said.

It's in contact with people taking in horses and other wildlife during the fire.

All donations are tax-deductible, and the nonprofit provided its EIN as 833894951.

More on the Palisades Fire

More than 30,000 residents were under evacuation orders on Wednesday morning.

The Palisades Fire broke out on Tuesday morning, Jan. 7, and ripped through Los Angeles’ Pacific Palisades neighborhood, a hillside area along the coast.

In the frantic haste to get to safety, roadways became impassable when scores of people abandoned their vehicles and fled on foot, some with suitcases.

Several people died as a result of that fire, county officials said.

Meanwhile, firefighters were battling a third blaze, called the "Hurst Fire," that started around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday. It quickly prompted evacuations in Sylmar, a San Fernando Valley community that is the northernmost neighborhood in Los Angeles.

Two additional fires, the Tyler Fire in Riverside County, and the Woodley Fire around the Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve in Encino, broke out Wednesday morning – adding to the dire situation for firefighters.
