GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities at Grand Canyon National Park have identified a man from Japan who died during a hike last week.
Park officials said Thursday that 36-year-old Takayuki Fujiwara was visiting from Morioka City, Iwate Prefecture, Japan.
They did not release an official cause of death.
The hiking party Fujiwara was with called rangers for help June 18 while on the Bright Angel Trail.
Members of the group say they tried to resuscitate him but he didn't have a pulse for two hours.
They say Fujiwara had been on his way back up the Bright Angel Trail after hiking down to the Colorado River.
Park officials say the temperature on the trail that day was above 110 degrees.
The National Park Service and the Coconino County Medical Examiner are investigating.
