Victim in deadly Glendale motorcycle crash an off-duty Phoenix Police officer

Phoenix Police Department is mourning the loss of one of their own during a crash that happened while he was off-duty. FOX 10's Matt Galka reports.

The Phoenix Police Department says an off-duty officer was killed Monday night in a motorcycle crash in Glendale.

According to Sgt. Maggie Cox, Blake Newman hit a curb and lost control of his motorcycle near 95th and Maryland Avenues at 11 p.m. The Glendale Police Department responded to the scene and transported Newman to the hospital where he later died.

Officials stated, "Officer Newman began his service with the Phoenix Police Department on June 18th, 2018 and was assigned to the patrol in the Maryvale-Estrella Mountain precinct.  Officer Newman was 25 years old and is survived by his parents, extended family and friends."
