Nogales Police officer dies, suspect in custody after shooting
NOGALES, Ariz. (KSAZ) - A Nogales police officer has died, after he was shot during a traffic stop Friday.
According to a statement posted on the Nogales Police Department's unverified Facebook page, the officer who died was identified as Jesus Cordova. The incident happened Friday afternoon, in the area of N. Grand Avenue and W. Mesa Verde Drive. Police later identified the suspect as David Ernesto Murillo.
Officers, according to police, were responding to an armed carjacking incident earlier in the day, and Cordova was shot, after the suspect left the vehicle. The suspect then carjacked another car from the scene and left, and later carjacked a third car.
The suspect, according to police, was located in the area of W. Mariposa Road and N. Frank Reed Road. He reportedly ran away from law enforcement, and was later taken into custody at a trailer park.
