PHOENIX (KSAZ) -- Organ donation is making new strides with new technology.

Mothers can now give the gift of life by donating something that's typically thrown out, and now, there are mothers in the valley who have given that gift of life.

Ja'leisa White-Newhouse gave birth to her baby girl, Da'kota, in August, and she is the first mother in the Valley to donate her placenta, through the birth tissue donation program. Placenta is a type of birth tissue can help others in many ways.

White-Newhouse's grandmother passed away at the age of 96, after suffering a fall. According to White-Newhouse, this type of donation could have helped her, and was her motivation behind the donation.

White-Newhouse plans on telling her daughter all about her gift of life, once she's older.

FOX 10's Danielle Miller reports.
