Mesa Police officials say members of the Department of Homeland Security were involved in a shooting Tuesday afternoon.

According to a tweet posted on the police's Twitter page, the incident happened at around 1:28 p.m., on the 800 block of S. Alma School Road.

According to Steve Berry with Mesa Police, members of the Department of Homeland Security Investigations Division were conducting an investigation at a parking lot in the area, when an unknown altercation took place while a suspect was being contacted, causing the federal agents to discharge their service weapons.

According to Berry, the adult male suspect was struck by gunfire, and later taken to a local hospital. No Homeland Security agents were hurt, and no Mesa Police officers were involved in the operation.

Meanwhile, officials with ICE say their special agents discharged their firearms and shot a suspect during an enforcement operation in Mesa, and ICE's Office of Professional Responsibility is reviewing the incident.
