MARICOPA, Ariz. (FOX 10) -- Officials with the Maricopa Unified School District #20 announced Monday night that classes will be in session on January at Maricopa Wells Middle School, despite reports of threat.
In a statement posted on the school district's unverified Facebook page, officials say a student reported a social media message about a threat to Maricopa Wells that is set to happen on January 30.
"School and District officials are working with the Maricopa Police Department to investigate and out of an abundance of caution, there will be an increased police presence while the investigation continues.
School will be in session for a regular school day on Wednesday, January 30th," read a portion of the statement.
Officials also said interfering or disrupting an educational institution is a violation of Arizona law, and say Maricopa Police detectives are investigating the incident.
