PHOENIX - Peoria Police officials have released new details surrounding a police incident in Glendale Wednesday night that left two people dead.
The shooting happened in the area of 47th Avenue and Butler, per our previous report on the matter. The incident began as a domestic call, and when officers arrived, officers encountered a woman who said she had been threatened by a man with a gun. The man fled the area in a vehicle before the officers arrived.
"Shortly after, a vehicle matching that description was located near 47th Avenue and Diana," Glendale Police officials said on Jan. 8. "Officers also found an individual outside the vehicle matching the suspect description."
Police say officers ordered the man to show his hands. He initially complied.
"At one point, officers say the individual dropped their hands and reached for something and that’s when one officer fired a shot at that individual," police said.
In their Jan. 9 statement, Peoria Police officials identified that man as a 46-year-old from Tucson. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
As for the suspect who was allegedly involved in the domestic incident, Peoria Police officials say the 23-year-old from Glendale was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

Per Peoria Police's statement, Glendale Police officers who arrived in the area of 47th Avenue and Diana first approached a truck that had a dark window tint.
Investigators say the Glendale officers were trying to contact anyone who may be inside that truck when their attention was drawn to the 46-year-old, who was sitting at a nearby gazebo within a park.
"Believing this subject was the ex-boyfriend, officers gave verbal commands for the subject to raise his hands. The subject did not comply with commands and made a movement towards his waistband. As a result, one Glendale officer fired at least one round, striking him," read a portion of Peoria Police's statement.
The 23-year-old, per investigators, was found inside the truck with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
"During this investigation, detectives could determine no known connection between the ex-boyfriend and the subject at the park," Peoria investigators wrote.
Peoria Police officials said the officers involved were wearing activated body cameras. An investigation remains ongoing.
